Sump Pump Failure Causes Basement Flooding During Heavy Rainstorm in Forest Grove?

Our Hillsboro and Forest Grove team is trained and certified to restore storm and flooding damage. Here is a Google Review from one of our customers we helped during a recent storm in Forest Grove:
“My sump pump failed during a time of heavy rain. I just bought the house after relocating from out of state. I found the water on a Sunday night. The Company was very responsive and I feel the team they sent went above and beyond to help me get the water out of the basement and dry out the floor, carpet, and drywall. My homeowner's insurance doesn't cover this as a claim so they were really great to work with.” Dawn Dipre
Here are some loss prevention and maintenance tips to keep your sump pump in good repair:
- Open the lid and remove debris that may be blocking the water inlet screen
- Pour about five gallons of water into the pump and watch the float valve rise
- As the float valve rises, the pump should turn on, and the water should discharge through the outlet pipe
- Go outside and inspect the outlet pipe
- Water should be flowing from the pipe and away from the home
- Contact a plumbing professional if the sump pump fails to operate during this inspection
- Install a battery backup system
- Choose a system with a battery replacement warning
- Replace batteries every two to three years
