When you get a notification for an emergency evacuation due to wildfires you generally don’t have time to look at multiple paragraph articles about how to protect your home before you leave. Below we have outlined a detailed plan on how to protect your home. Please note the bulleted points in order to meet your needs and home.
Interior:
- Shut all windows and doors and leave them unlocked
- remove curtains, move furniture away from doors
- Leave lights on so fire fighting personnel can see your home in the dark
- Shut off your HVAC system
Exterior:
- Shut off gas meters and propane tanks
- Remove items near the exterior walls
- Move propane fueled BBQ appliances
- Connect and extend exterior hoses for firefighters use
- Do not leave any water on as to maximize water pressure for firefighters
- Keep lights on outside
- Keep all car windows and doors closed
- Keep ladder outside of home for firefighters
