Putting out a fire with water

With summer just around the corner we want to share some safe outdoor fire tips on how to properly put out a fire using water.
- Be cautious when you are intoxicated and near a fire
- Do not throw trash or debris into a lit fire
- Do not use Accelerants to light your fire
- Do not toss aerosols, bottles, plastics, or malleable metals into the fire.
Doing so can cause shrapnel to be project into the air and potentially cause injury.
- Do not leave the fire pit unattended
- Do not leave children or pets unattended near a fire pit
- Do make sure you have a bucket of water or fire extinguisher readily available
- Do keep your fire pit 10 feet away from combustible items, buildings, or other landscaping
- Ensure that the fire pit is covered to some extent
- Do not use a fire pit on a deck or under a covered patio
- Ensure that your fire pit is at least 6 inches tall
- Do keep a shovel near by to smother a fire if necessary
- Dispose of ashes in a safe metal container used solely for ashes.
